Your tree was “topped” and now it’s a hazard
A previous crew (or a well-meaning DIY job) cut the canopy back hard and flat. The tree responded with a burst of weak, fast-growing “water sprouts” that are poorly attached and snap in the first monsoon storm — and the exposed limbs are now sunscalded. Topping doesn’t control a tree; it permanently weakens it.
How we fix it: Our ISA-certified arborists prune to the branch collar using proper structural cuts, gradually retrain a topped tree back toward a stable shape, and never remove more than 20–30% of the canopy at once.
Your mesquite or palo verde blew over (or is about to)
Tucson’s monsoon microbursts hit 60+ mph, and an overgrown, top-heavy, or shallow-rooted tree — especially a fast-growing Chilean mesquite — acts like a sail. Once it’s leaning, the root plate has already failed.
How we fix it: We thin and balance canopies before the monsoon season so wind passes through instead of pushing the tree over, and we assess lean and root stability before a tree becomes an emergency.
Your palo verde is yellowing or dropping branches
Desert trees get sick in desert-specific ways — palo verde dieback, sooty canker, Texas root rot, mesquite rust, and wood-boring beetles, often made worse by overwatering against the trunk or planting in poorly drained caliche.
How we fix it: Our arborists diagnose the actual cause, treat what’s treatable, prune out infected wood properly to stop the spread, and correct the watering and soil issues feeding the problem.
A tree is too close to the house, pool, or power line
Roots threatening a foundation or pool deck, limbs over the roof, or a canopy growing into TEP lines are safety and liability risks — and not a DIY job near a structure.
How we fix it: We remove hazardous trees safely with proper rigging, grind the stump below grade, and, where the tree can be saved, use crown reduction to clear the conflict without removal.
You need a cactus or saguaro removed and don’t want to break the law
Saguaros and many native cacti are protected, weigh tons, and store enough water to be genuinely dangerous to handle.
How we fix it: We remove and relocate the cactus legally under the Arizona Native Plant Law, filing the Arizona Department of Agriculture notification and tag, with equipment rated for the weight.
